To create more than one Crore new jobs in next 3 years, the Indian government approved the Scheme for Production and Employment Linked Support for Garmenting Units (SPELSGU) with a special package of INR6,000 Crores for textile and apparel sectors. The policy is also likely to attract significant investments in the sector and provide a big push to textile exports from the country. OBJECTIVES AND SOPS: Under the policy, the Government proposed to provide an additional 10% Capital Investment Subsidy (CIS) for garment units, which have availed 15% CIS benefit under Amended Technology Upgradation Funds Scheme (ATUFS) based on the achievement of projected production and employment for a period of 3 years. The period of 3 years will be counted from the date of release of ATUFS subsidy to those units, providing a further incentive for the investments in the sector. Based on positive impact of the policy on the textile sector, we chose some quality stocks, which are fundamentally good and are amongst the most appropriate beneficiaries of the measure.
